This is a really BIG project because the princess could not live with icky cottage cheese ceilings and they needed to be skim coated... but our carpenter/jack of all trades type guy was here working while we were on vacation. He is here right now fixing a goof up (he painted the sloped part of the ceiling the wall color) and I will take pics and post in a bit. Because I was so crazed before vacation I did not take any befores but I have a few bad shots my mom took on the house inspection so it's the previous owner's stuff you see.

It's hard to appreciate the true blahness of that yucky slightly off white color and the very plasticy looking high gloss paint. We did the trim in a custom mixed cabinet coat color that we colormatched to the tile in the bathroom and the walls in demi's cognac. Here is a preview - we happened to take these pics in the upstairs hall. Will take better pics later (similar to these shots) and post Still have the old carpet though.

Yummy color! It brings out the beauty of the wood (and vice verse). Rich, warm, and subtle at once ... like cognac.

The skeleton and the black cat! Aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh, so sweet. :-*

It's Demi's own Cognac (well Ellen Kennon's I guess). Looks great in person, what a HUGE transformation. I need to schedule the carpet but we are working on getting the permit closed out on the bathroom first.

Oh, I didn't know this thread was here!

Wow, you don't mess around and procrastinate like I do. ;D

It looks just great; I agree the wood tones are enhanced, and I think, in turn, enhance the wall color. Your little skeleton is a cutie with cognac background.

I'm so pleased you like it and used it~!

Well a couple of weeks before we went on vacation DH had the bright idea to have it done while we were away because it was SO messy. The entire ceiling was skim coated and lots of plaster repair, our contractor guy who did it came home looking like a ghost every night according to his wife (who we are friends with). He also watched the cats for us while we were gone. There is NO WAY we could have done that with the baby in the house because this hall is impossible to avoid leading to our bedroom, the bathroom, the nursery and downstairs.

That's why it was a decorating emergency, I needed to pick a color and get it done! Now I can go back to procrastinating on the carpet install. The reason we wanted to just get this done too is because with so many companies going out of business, I want to get the carpet in. I don't want to assume that they will still be there in a year even though they swear they will be, you know? I put a deposit on a great remnant and it was still there when I went in the other week.

I wish I had a before of just how bad the ceiling was though. The one thing i've noticed is that it's more echo-y on the landing now since we skim coated the cottage cheese. Hopefully the carpet on the stairs will help deaden the sound.

Thanks, Jazz.

I am doing a runner cut and bound from a wall to wall remnant in a trellis pattern that I got for a steal of a price. Special ordering the matching runner would have cost upwards of $1500 more. The upstairs hall will be wall to wall. I need to arrange install actually!
